Volunteer Opportunity -- Animal Behaviour, National Zoo 


Seeking volunteers to help with a captive experiment of migratory songbirds at the National Zoo. 

Study is examining the influence of nutritional condition on the migratory behaviour of wood thrush, a declining Neotropical migrant. Volunteers would be involved with the daily husbandry of birds (diet and cage preparation, cleaning) and data entry. Looking for students interested in pursuing research in animal behaviour and ecology. Work will be conducted at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute (SCBI) located in the National Zoological Park in DC in association with Dr. Peter Marra, Dr. Michele Dudash and PhD student Calandra Stanley. Volunteers will have the opportunity to interact with research scientists at SCBI. Opportunities to obtain research credit through the University of Maryland possible after a trial volunteer period.
