Tree Maintenance Internship Gunpowder Valley Conservancy The Gunpowder Valley Conservancy is seeking an energetic person to assist with our Tree Reforestation Program. Work performed in the Loch Raven Reservoir area and in the surrounding Gunpowder watershed.  Seeking hard worker with ability to apply instruction consistently; willing to work outside in an open field environment with high weeds; willing to work in heat and cold temperatures; attention to detail; ability to work without direct supervision; and able to take initiative. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 1 year college level course work working towards a degree in environmental science, biology, ecology, botany, or natural history. Work expectation :  10 hours per week; unpaid.  Hours are flexible and can include weekends. UMD BATS Team Research Intern - apply by 5/18 Looking for an internship opportunity this summer and/or fall? Enjoy working outdoors and road trips?  The UMD BATS (Bat Acoustic Traveling Study) Team is looking for summer research interns. Interns are trained on how to program bat detectors to record bat echolocation calls, how to gather tree and other environmental data, how to use a compass, and how to use a hand-held GPS.  If you're available every Saturday (all day) of the summer (or fall) semester , then you should send in your resume, cover letter, and unofficial transcripts to Shannon Pederson at  shannonp@umd.edu by May 18.  Let me know if you are interested in earning internship credit. Student Conservation Association Exotic Plant Management Intern Monocacy National Battlefield,  Frederick, MD Dates:  May 23 - August 12, 2016 Natural resource management activities will primarily consist of exotic plant control and maintenance of native plants (70% of time in position). The intern will gain significant experience in exotic and native plant identification, exotic plant control strategies, herbicide application, and native plant landscaping techniques.  The intern will be treating and controlling exotic, invasive vegetation using manual, mechanical, and herbicide treatments.  Other duties (30% of time in position) may consist of: trail maintenance and repair, natural resources monitoring (plants, wildlife), pest identification and monitoring (emerald ash borer, gypsy moth, etc), GPS data collection and GIS mapping, and wildlife management.  The intern may be assigned a special project based on park needs and their individual interests and skill level.

PAID - Agricultural Research Intern First Fruit Farms First Fruits Farms  is seeking a summer intern to work on a funding proposal to the Maryland DNR to fund development of our zero-nutrient run-off farming system.  We are are proposing to develop a prototype of our zero nutrient run-off farming system together with a robotic system for tree farming/restoration of commodity crop lands.
