New Spring 2019 Course ARTH488G: Art and the Environment A new undergraduate course, Art and the Environment will be offered this spring. One exciting change is that the course will meet at the University of Maryland Center for Art & Knowledge at the Phillips Collection in Washington DC (Friday afternoons). There, students will be able to engage in up-close, in-person study of paintings by Monet, van Gogh, O'Keeffe and others. Friends of Blackwater Scholarship To promote the preservation, awareness, and appreciation of our environment, the Friends of Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge offer scholarships to students who are pursuing careers in fish and wildlife management, environmental education and science, and related fields. Three annual scholarships, one each of $3,000, $2,000, and $1,000 may be awarded to qualified applicants to be paid directly to their chosen college. The scholarships are to be used for tuition, college fees, books, supplies, and equipment, if required of all other students in the registered courses. Scholarships are available to students whose home residences are in Maryland and will be entering their junior or senior year of college or a graduate program following their final college term. Student Conservation Association (SCA) FWS Directorate Resource Assistant Fellows Program (DFP) In 2019, the U.S Fish & Wildlife Service (FWS) will partner with the Student Conservation Association (SCA) to administer the FWS Directorate Resource Assistant Fellows Program (DFP). The DFP is an 11-week fellowship working on projects that support FWS conservation priorities. Eligible students who are pursuing degrees in biological science and/or natural resources management will possess the desired qualifications to apply for participation in the 2019 DFP. Eligible students must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an undergraduate (rising seniors) or graduate degree program, and who will not complete their degree requirements prior to the completion of the 2019 DFP 11-weeks fellowship. Adele’s Circle of Women 2019 Scholarship Application Adele’s Circle of Women Scholarship grants annual scholarships to help deserving students who advance the role of women and girls in their academic studies and activities, who plan to further this leadership in their personal and professional lives. The scholarship seeks to aid emerging student leaders and/or recognize accomplished student leaders. EcoFellowship Program For graduating seniors! The Center for EcoTechnology will begin accepting applications for our EcoFellowship program on January 1, 2019. The EcoFellowship Program is a one-year paid fellowship position to work with CET staff and other EcoFellows to carry out a range of activities related to climate action initiatives and educational programming in western Massachusetts. EcoFellows support CET’s initiatives to assist residents, students, institutions and businesses across the region in ongoing programs in energy efficiency, home energy services, renewable energy, and waste reduction through recycling, reuse and composting. Doris Duke Conservation Scholars Program Applications for the Doris Duke Conservation Scholars Program are open!  Each winter the program selects early-undergraduate Scholars from around the country to participate in a two-year conservation mentorship program centered on the summers between academic years. Their goal is to serve students from all backgrounds, including groups traditionally underrepresented in conservation, who can contribute to diversifying, redefining, and strengthening efforts to protect land, wildlife and water. They admit college freshmen and sophomores, at a stage when they can support their undergraduate careers and their choices as they graduate.  During the first year, Scholars participate on an eight-week, intensive summer course integrating conservation design, leadership and research experiences while traveling with a close group of peers and mentors.
