Urban Farms: Feeding the Future

Imagine a future where urban farms provide fresh food, help reduce hunger and protect the planet. What if these farms were in the District now? Mchezaji “Che” Axum, from the University of the District of Columbia will showcase his research and talk about how agricultural traditions may inform the future of urban farming. He is the director of the Center for Urban Agriculture and Gardening Education in the College of Agriculture, Urban Sustainability and Environmental Sciences (CAUSES). We will also hear from Niraj Ray of Cultivate the City, who operates H St. Farms, a demonstration vertical farm and garden center located on the roof of W.S. Jenks & Son, a hardware store a few traffic lights away from the Arboretum. Fee: $10 (FONA $8).
