Gruner lab seeks undergraduate research assistants

We are looking for a student with an interest in ecology or entomology, who can invest 1-2 credits (typically 5-10 hrs a week) in an undergraduate research project.

The Gruner lab studies insect communities in mangroves, salt marshes and tropical wet forests. We look at the effects of climate change and invasions on species ranges, community shifts and food webs. We also examine how ecological processes and evolution play a role in creating biodiversity.  Students working in our lab can gain skills in insect identification, microscopy, stable isotope analysis and data management. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on exposure to entomology, ecology and research methodology.

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, committed and has an interest in ecology/bugs. Ability to work independently is also a must. However, no prior knowledge of insects is necessary. Initial opportunities will be lab-based but students demonstrating their value to the projects will have opportunities to develop semi-independent research in the future.

If you're interested, please contact the Gruner lab at elske.tielens@gmail.com.  Include your unofficial transcript and a brief statement of your interests in this position.
