Paid Summer Sustainability Internship

World Resources Institute

The WRI seeks an intern to support the Sustainability Initiative, an internal initiative focused on “walking the talk” to minimize the negative impact of our own operations.  The intern will provide data collection, processing, analysis, and visualization support for our ongoing reporting of greenhouse gas emissions.  In addition, the Initiative is highly collaborative in nature and will help with scheduling meetings with staff from various programs, partners, and offices in the WRI network.  The offer is for a summer internship for 3 months, with the potential for an extension pending performance.

Responsibilities:

Data collection, processing, and analysis (40%)
  • Communicate with various staff and partners to collect data for the carbon tax, GHG inventory, and nitrogen footprint reports
  • Input and clean data for duplicates, errors, and format
  • Input data into pre-populated spreadsheets for processing
  • Error check processed data
  • Assist in developing data visualizations to communicate progress on sustainability targets
Staff awareness building (40%)
  • Assist in planning staff events, including scheduling spaces, coordinating promotional materials, and evaluating activities
  • Assist in developing graphics and awareness materials for staff and partners
  • Maintain and update staff intranet pages and other staff communication channels on a weekly basis
Administration, research and staff development (20%)
  • Assist in maintaining Sustainability Manager schedules and meetings
  • Research behavior change and sustainability topics
  • Create brief literature review write-ups on research
  • Support project management efforts for various sustainability initiatives, including managing timelines and other planning materials
Other Areas:
  • Greenhouse gas and other resource consumption accounting
  • Sustainability management, and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
  • Supporting project development and project management

  • Developing and reviewing communication materials

Qualifications
  • Degree: Working towards or completed Bachelor’s Degree
  • Degree preferred: Working towards or completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Architecture, Graphic Design, Communication, Business Administration, Management, Environmental Studies, Sustainability, or Mathematics.
  • Excellent graphics skills

  • WRI does not sponsor interns for visas of any kind. Must have authorization to work in the U.S. in order to apply for this position.
Final candidate will be required to take a writing test

Finalists will need to submit 2 writing samples that include graphics (e.g. graphics, charts, diagrams) 

Reports To: Sustainability Manager

Salary: This is a paid intern position with an hourly rate based on experience.
