Global Food Security Project

JOB SUMMARY:  The CSIS Global Food Security Project provides long-term, strategic guidance to policy makers to ensure that U.S. foreign assistance programs are efficient, effective, and sustainable. The project studies and highlights the impact of global food security on critical U.S. strategic interests, such as political stability and economic prosperity, through desk and field research, analytic publications, and public and private events.

By engaging and collaborating with thought leaders in Washington, DC and beyond, the project aims to increase the level of dialogue surrounding challenges to food security and to help develop both the policy solutions and political will to address them. Analyzing President Obama’s legacy in food security and creating a roadmap for the next administration are important aspects of the project’s goal to strengthen and sustain U.S. leadership in food security and agricultural development.

CSIS seeks a Research Intern to support the Global Food Security Project.  The Research Intern will provide research and administrative support. Research will focus on global agricultural production, nutrition, and climate change and how it relates to U.S. global food security policy and legislation. The Research Intern will also provide administrative support to the program as needed.

Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Assist with monitoring news in agricultural development and food security.
  • Track legislation as it relates to global food security and agriculture.
  • Attending off-site events and meetings and compiling notes to share with project staff.
  • Research and author short publications.
  • Conduct spot and background research.
  • Maintain and update program data, including program mailing lists.
  • Assist with the design and implementation of social media outreach plans, particularly leading Twitter account.
  • Assist in event planning and staffing.
  • Provide general administrative support for project staff.

Required Experience:
  • Experience with qualitative analysis and writing.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated interest in agricultural development and food security.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a cohesive member of a small team.
  • Must be at least a rising college senior.
  • Must have at least a 3.3 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) from an accredited U.S. institution, or equivalent from a non-U.S. institution.
  • There is an opportunity to complete this internship for institutional credit.
