Baltimore Urban Resources Initiatives (URI) - Apply by 4/15 



The Urban Resources Initiative Internship Program is a partnership between the Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks, the Parks & People Foundation, and area universities to provide interns for priority projects in Baltimore parks.

URI nterns develop innovative pilot projects and conduct research to support restoration of Baltimore’s urban parks, natural resources, and neighborhoods. Projects are involved in research and development, youth education and training, and community building with nonprofits, community organizations, and local government agencies like the Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks. These projects help to broaden interns’ understanding of urban natural resource and neighborhood revitalization issues, as well as the link between their classroom learning and career development. Interns have a strong record of serving Baltimore, enhancing urban parks and natural resources, and achieving academic and professional success. Current projects include:

BALTIMORE CITY - DEPARTMENT OF RECREATION AND PARKS
  • Conservation and Archiving of the Records of the Recreation Division
  • Park and Recreation Program Promotion
  • Park or Recreation Center User Survey
  • Outdoor Recreation Activities/Healthy Baltimore Initiative
  • Weed Warriors Program Tracking & Outreach
  • Recreation Center or Aquatics Program Assistant
  • Documenting Property Values and Community Perceptions Near  Major Parks
  • Assist Development of a Plan for a Major Park

PARKS & PEOPLE FOUNDATION
  • Buried Hydrologic Resource Overlay Mapping
  • Vacant Lot Re-Use: Assessing Vacant Lot Maintenance and Stewardship
  • Growing Green Initiative: Resource Guide
  • Community Greening Resource Network (CGRN) Assistant
  • Urban Ecology Education (Baltimore Ecosystem Study)

Preferred Areas of Study/Major(s):   Environmental Science/Studies and other liberal arts majors
Internship Location:  Baltimore, MD 
Details:  Summer 2016 (June-August);  Hours per week: 15-20 hours; Workdays: Flexible; Pay: None
