ENGL 479I: Global Ecologies, Environmental Literature, and Film

In this course we will read canonical and non-canonical works that deal with environmental issues by American, Caribbean, South Asian, and African writers. Texts will include fiction, memoirs, and poetry. We will also examine films, both popular and documentary, that deal with the environment and that allow us to explore various perspectives on ecological issues. Students will be required to post questions on Discussion Board as well as keep journal entries. Students will also write 5 one-page papers and 2 long papers on assigned topics. In addition, there will be a final group project.
