Teach for America

In the United States, just 1 in 4 fourth graders from low-income backgrounds are proficient in math, and just 1 in 6 are proficient in science. By 2018, eight million STEM jobs will be available in the US,but the vast majority of US students will be unprepared to fill them.

To combat this, Teach For America and the Amgen Foundation launched the STEM Initiative in 2006, announcing our commitment to empowering all students with a great STEM education. Today, Teach For America is one of the largest—and most diverse—providers of STEM teachers in the country.  Approximately 3,500 of our corps members teach an elementary or secondary STEM subject.

Launch a career of impact. Join Teach For America, including nearly 7000 current corps members and over 50,000 alumni, in our fight to make excellent education a reality for all.

Sign up here to meet with UMD’s campus recruiter Cidney King to learn more about how you can make an impact with TFA. Meetings are on campus in STAMP (2nd floor cafĂ©). If you don’t see times that work for you, email Cidney.King@teachforamerica.org to set up a phone meeting.
