PSLA Lecture Series

The Department of Plant Science and Landscape Architecture will be hosting Mary Cadenasso of UC Davis next Thursday, October 26th.

Dr. Cadenasso's research is concerned with linking landscape pattern to ecosystem function and understanding how human activities alter that link. Her research spans multiple systems and scales, and she is a founding member and co-PI of the Baltimore Ecosystem Study Long-Term Ecological Research site. See her website and Google Scholar profile for more on the breadth of her work.

Her talk is titled Land cover signatures across contrasting urban systems: an approach to tracking dynamic heterogenity and will address the questions:

Can urban heterogeneity be described by land cover signatures? What can be learned by comparing signatures among cities or by evaluating how signatures change through time?

She will present the HERCULES land cover model she developed that uses remote sensing to better understand ecosystem function in cities, and explore the use of land cover signatures as indicators of urban dynamic heterogeneity.

All seminars are 4 to 5 pm in room 1140 of the Plant Sciences Building, and are followed by a social with snacks and beverages upstairs in room 2159.
