Summer 2018 Study Abroad Program in Costa Rica

The Department of Anthropology at the University of Georgia recently began taking applications for the Summer 2018 Surfing & Sustainability: Political Ecology in Costa Rica Study Abroad program. This is a 6-credit program in which students take two courses (described below); out-of-state students pay in-state tuition

Surfing & Sustainability: Political Ecology in Costa Rica - 6 credits

Students in this program take two courses:
  • Communities, Conservation & Development on Costa Rica’s Pacific Coast (ANTH/GEOG 4275/6275, 3 credits). This course focuses on the political ecology of conservation and coastal development in local communities.
  • The Anthropology of Surfing (ANTH 4285/6285, 3 credits). This course introduces students to surfing as a globalizing cultural phenomenon from an ethnographic perspective and focuses on sustainable surf tourism.
