Upcoming Environmental Justice Events and Opportunities

The environmental justice student organization, 17 for Peace and Justice, is cosponsoring two Environmental Justice events open to all students.

On Friday, May 4th at 6pm Dr. Robert Bullard, an outstanding advocate in the Environmental Justice Movement, will be giving a lecture entitled "The Wrong Complexion for Protection: Race, Place, and the Politics of Pollution. The lecture will take place in the Main Lecture Hall in the School of Public Health, SPH 1312.

Please join the BSOS Climate Group for a presentation on Environmental Justice by Professor Marccus Hendricks at 3:30-5:00 p.m. this Wednesday May 9 in Room 2113, Chincoteague Hall (Coffee and cookies served at 3:15 p.m.).

Dr. Hendricks is an Assistant Professor of Urban Studies and Planning in the School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation at the University of Maryland. 


The title of his presentation is "Towards Climate and Infrastructural Justice: Unequal Protection Revisited and the New Face of Environmental Burden"

On Saturday, May 12th, the Environmental Justice Symposium will be held in Stamp. Students can register for the symposium for free (http://go.umd.edu/4symposium).

You can also sign up to volunteer for the symposium (https://goo.gl/forms/LtIf98WZh02j5q5J2). Volunteers get $50 for helping out the entire day (7:30 - 4:30), and $25 for helping out in either the morning or the afternoon shifts.
