Ducks Unlimited’s Governmental Affairs Office in Washington, D.C. is seeking a qualified individual for a GIS – Policy Internship. The successful candidate will gain valuable Capitol Hill and non-profit experience by using their GIS skills to support efforts to educate Members of Congress on the positive effects of conservation legislation. The internship is paid and will last one year. Typical working hours are from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with flexible hours for qualified students.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates should have good knowledge of GIS principles and experience with ESRI products. They should be self-motivated, conscientious individuals who can work independently with minimal supervision. Knowledge of wildlife conservation, wetlands, congressional process and / or environmental policy and practices is encouraged.

The successful candidate will work closely with a joint GIS-policy team to build a spatial database of historical projects and create a web mapping application that will effectively communicate the impact of conservation. Work emphasis will be on digitizing and editing spatial data, performing quality check / quality accuracy processes, standardizing and documenting processes using ArcPro Tasks, and the development of online web mapping applications. Other responsibilities will include assisting the policy team with administrative and legislative work, as needed.
