ENSP386 and Spring 2020

At this time, if you are enrolled in ENSP386, you should reach out to your site supervisors regarding your options for continuing your internship. We understand some workplaces will be conducting business as usual, while others will be moving to remote, and some may be ending their internship programs.

I also want to let you know that ENSP will not penalize you if you are unable to meet the 120 credit on-site requirement.

First thing you should do: contact your supervisors and discuss how the nature of your internship is changing, if at all.

Here are a few options/points of discussion you should consider having with your site supervisor and ENSP386 faculty advisor:
  • Remote work can count the same as in-person work for the rest of the semester, with your supervisor’s approval. I encourage you to share the official University announcements from President Loh for specifics.  Have a discussion with your supervisor about the possibility of continuing your current or similar duties through remote work.
If remote work is not a possibility, and you are told to stay away from your internship, or feel unsafe travelling to and from or physically staying at your internship there are a variety of options (see below). Please work with your ENSP386 faculty advisor if this is an option you'd like to pursue...  Here are some alternative assignments to consider (if you decide to select one of these options, be prepared to submit this in your final internship packet at the end of the semester):
  • Informational interviews by phone with superiors at your internship site or alumni, alternatively, conduct them with friends of parents or guardians, parents of friends, neighbors, or professionals with whom you may have contact during spring break. Document your conversation (one page, double-spaced).
  • An option for some students with a strong relationship with their supervisor--Could you work on a project, involving approximately the same hours you would spend for the duration of your internship under normal conditions, that you could complete remotely? Pitch an idea to your supervisor now, or ask if they have a proposal.
