COMMUNICATIONS INTERN – DC Office

The Basics: About This Internship

We are seeking a qualified individual to fill an unpaid internship that will support our communications staff. This internship presents a unique opportunity to learn the ins and outs of media outreach in a nonprofit setting by gaining knowledge about the strategies employed by our small but nimble and extremely effective communications department.

You will be doing true on-the-job training, working with science communicators to raise the profile of EWG and its issues in media outlets across the country. We like to work with our interns to customize the experience for your interests and school and career goals. And we provide substantive feedback throughout the experience.
Responsibilities:

Research and write articles as needed for EWG’s website and blogs.
Research media outlets that might be interested in covering EWG’s research.
Maintain lists of reporters to aid in pitching news stories on EWG’s issues.
Summarize media coverage and compile quotes citing EWG.
Conduct preliminary research on stories that EWG might want to pitch to reporters.
Monitor topics from EWG and other environmental outlets that reporters and academics are talking about on social media.
