Environmental Politics and Policy curriculum modifications

We're pleased to inform you that a curriculum modification was recently approved for the Environmental Politics and Policy concentration!  This means you'll see a few changes on the Degree Requirements sheet that will go into effect beginning immediately.

Here are the changes you should be aware about:
  • GVPT273 (Introduction to Environmental Politics) was REMOVED from list of requirements. In its place, we ADDED a GVPT course of choice (200/300/400-level) - those who have already taken or are currently taking GVPT273 will not be penalized!
  • List of Restricted Electives was updated (you'll see some new courses added to the approved list)

Why was GVPT273 removed?
We have found that this course is very similar to ENSP102 (Intro to Environmental Policy).  Rather than having students take two courses with similar content, we wanted to give you the option to choose a GVPT course of your choice (this allows you to pick a course based off of your own interests and career goals, like international issues or policy)

Oh no!  I already took GVPT273!
Don't worry!  We will still approve this as a Politics and Policy degree requirement.  It will satisfy the "GVPT course of choice".

Can I still take GVPT273 as the "GVPT course of choice"?
We strongly discourage this.  Since there is redundancy between GVPT273 and ENSP102 there will be little educational value to you taking GVPT273.  Now that you can choose any GVPT course, you have more flexibility and availability in regards to course options.

The updated Degree Requirements sheet is posted on our website. Dr. Alcaniz and Ms. Vierling helped us craft these changes and will be assisting you as you plan your upcoming course schedules.  Please let us know if you have any questions.
