SFS: Updates on Summer 2021 Programs

After careful academic and safety considerations, we have decided to update our Summer 2021 programming which, includes shifting some programs originally scheduled for Summer I to Summer II and cancelling several programs. 

We will offer:
Summer Session I: June 7 – July 7, 2021 (dates remain tentative until travel instructions are sent 3 months prior to program start)

• Bhutan: FORESTS IN THE LAND OF THE THUNDER DRAGON

• Kenya: FUNDAMENTALS OF WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT (NOTE: This program will operate in Kenya only with no travel in Tanzania, and will include extra components on primate studies due to the cancellation of the primates special topics course for Summer 2021.)

• Turks & Caicos Islands: FUNDAMENTALS OF MARINE CONSERVATION

Summer Session II: July 11 – August 10, 2021 (dates remain tentative until travel instructions are sent 3 months prior to program start)

• Australia: WATERSHEDS OF THE WET TROPICS

• Bhutan: BIG CATS OF THE HIMALAYAS: TRACKING AND CONSERVATION

• Cambodia: ELEPHANTS OF THE CAMBODIAN HIGHLANDS

• Costa Rica: BIODIVERSITY AND SUSTAINABLE FOOD SYSTEMS

• Kenya: CARNIVORES OF THE AFRICAN PLAINS (NOTE: This program typically operates in Tanzania but will be based at our Kenya Center for Summer 2021. It will resume in Tanzania in Summer 2022.)

• Panama: TROPICAL ISLAND ECOSYSTEMS: THE HUMAN IMPACT

• Turks & Caicos Islands: MARINE MEGAFAUNA

Cancelled Programs: For risk management reasons, we are not offering summer programs with border crossings and have decided to delay the inaugural session of our new Cambodia freswater ecology course. These programs will be offered again in Summer 2022.

• Australia/New Zealand: RAINFORESTS OF NEW ZEALAND AND AUSTRALIA

• Cambodia: FRESHWATER ECOLOGY AND CONSERVATION

• Kenya: PRIMATES OF THE AFRICAN SAVANNA

• No programs will be offered in or travel to Tanzania.

This summer, because of quarantines, testing requirements, and immigration restrictions, SFS will not allow students to enroll in Summer 1 and Summer 2 programs across countries. Students can only enroll in sequential summer programs in Bhutan, Kenya, or the Turks & Caicos Islands.

All students who are currently enrolled or have started an SFS application to a Summer 2021 program have been notified about these changes and we will work with them regarding any adjustments to their study abroad plans due to cancelled or shifted programs. We will update our website and portals by the end of this week. An updated refund policy will be posted to our COVID-19 RESPONSE PAGE.
