We a now one week away from the FINAL deadline to apply for CivicSpark and California Climate Action Corps on May 31! We are reaching out one more time to kindly ask for your support in sharing this opportunity with your networks of early professionals, recent graduates, or people that may be a good fit.

 

The Local Government Commission’s national service programs offer a unique opportunity for recent or upcoming graduates and emerging professionals passionate about environmental and community resilience to build experience in the sector.

 

CivicSpark is a Governor’s Initiative AmeriCorps program where Fellows focus on planning and policy support to build local government capacity to address environmental and community resilience challenges and create lasting impact in California communities.

 

Climate Action Corps is part of a larger statewide initiative led by California Volunteers to address the climate crisis. CAC Fellows focus on engaging Californians with direct climate action to help protect vulnerable communities against the most adverse impacts of a changing climate.




CivicSpark and the Climate Action Corps are looking for early professionals eager to tackle the climate crisis and build community resilience to join the 21-22 Fellow service year cohort!

Both of the Local Government Commission’s national service programs offer a unique opportunity for emerging professionals passionate about environmental and community resilience to build experience in the sector.  From September 2021 to August 2022, over 140 Fellows will bring energy, commitment, and drive to support communities across California tackle their environmental and community resilience issues while gaining professional experience!

CivicSpark Fellows focus on projects that support local government capacity through planning and policy support to address community resilience issues such as:

  • Sustainable transportation 
  • Energy efficiency 
  • Climate action planning
  • Water conservation & drought response
  • Equity and affordable housing

Climate Action Corps Fellows focus on projects engaging communities with direct climate action such as:

  • Urban tree planting initiatives to lower home energy bills in low-income communities
  • Edible food rescue programs that address the state’s food insecurity crisis
  • Wildfire prevention and mitigation through education and direct action

While projects vary, Fellows can expect to work on a range of tasks, including meeting facilitation, community outreach, data collection and analysis, and report writing. Fellows will also have the opportunity to work on volunteer engagement projects and attend regular training to build professional and technical skills. Fellows will complete their service year with a strong understanding of working with local governments and experience in using key sustainability and water management tools.

Fellows get exceptional real-world project management and community engagement experience serving alongside organizations and regional leaders, including:

  • Outcome-driven project implementation experience 
  • Mentorship and project level support
  • Training on project-related tools and techniques
  • Statewide networking with local, regional, and state leaders
