U.S.-Korea Young Climate Activists Exchange Program

The U.S.-Korea Young Climate Activists Exchange Program  fully-funded cultural and educational international engagement opportunity between the United States and the Republic of Korea regarding climate change. This initiative is a direct outcome of the May 2021 summit between U.S. President Joe Biden and South Korean President Moon Jae-In and is meant to further these nations' partnership with one another.

The U.S.-Korea Young Climate Activists Exchange Program is funded by a grant from and was initiated by the U.S. Embassy Seoul. The Northern Nevada International Center (NNIC) is managing this public diplomacy international exchange between young American and Korean climate activists between the ages of 22 and 30 to take place later this year. This program is meant to provide the participants with a deeper firsthand understanding of the United States' and the Republic of Korea's commitment to addressing climate change at local, national, and international levels through their respective nations and environmental concerns. Participants will spend 13 days in the nation they are learning about and 3 days in their home country. They will have the opportunity to learn more about the governmental and scientific aspects of climate change as well as cultural facets of the United States and the Republic of Korea, respectively.

NNIC is seeking ten young American climate activists to take part in this fully-funded exchange. Their portion of the program will involve a 3-day long visit to Lake Tahoe in August to attend the 26th annual Lake Tahoe Summit with the Korean participants and a 13-day long visit to the Republic of Korea in October, engaging with multiple cities, organizations, and government agencies to fulfill their program goals and objectives. Successful applicants will have leadership experience in environmental activism, be able to work cooperatively in a group setting, and can demonstrate a vested interest in both the educational and cultural aspects of this exchange.

Applications can be submitted through https://www.unr.edu/nnic/programs/young-climate-activists-program and the application portal will close at midnight on March 7th.
