Research Intern, Climate Change- Pan American Development Foundation (PADF)

In April 2020, PADF signed the NGO Climate Compact which committed the organization to taking action to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions. As one of the first actions towards that commitment, PADF completed a greenhouse gas emissions baseline study for the 2019 fiscal year. Armed with this data and with the support of PADF’s leadership, PADF is taking the first steps towards further understanding, measuring, and setting targets to reduce the organization’s carbon footprint. In December 2021, PADF joined the Climate Accountability in Development Collective.

The Pan American Development Foundation is looking to bring on a Climate Change Research Intern for a three-month period between May to Augsut 2022 to support climate change and sustainability initiatives across PADF. The Intern will help PADF make progress towards its Climate Action Plan by performing a range of tasks and assignments, including:

  • Support PADF’s internal Green Team by helping to coordinate ongoing activities and research in the creation of the 2022-2030 Climate Action Plan.
  • Support efforts to mainstream climate change considerations across PADF’s thematic areas in line with the 2022 work plan of PADF’s internal Environment and Disaster Resilience (EDR) Community of Practice.
  • Liaise with the EDR Community of Practice to assess program performance, discern lessons learned, and make recommendations for improved knowledge management.
  • Research advanced methods of measuring GHG emissions that are in line with international climate change protocols and frameworks.
  • Support the Green Team to engage with operational support and other relevant PADF units to implement commitments in line with the Climate Accountability in Development Collective.
  • Research policies, trends, and best practices related to climate change mitigation and adaptation, energy, transportation, materials management, natural resource management, and other sustainability topics to advance PADF’s knowledge on these issues.
  • Synthesize and translate complex information into clear, informative, and compelling materials (e.g., summaries, fact sheets, presentations, online dashboards, reports) for diverse audiences.
  • Gather and analyze information on PADF’s projects that accelerate and facilitate PADF’s efforts to achieve resilience outcomes, including through climate change adaptation.
