Seeking Hourly Student Employee in Recycling Office

Estimated Workweek/Hrs Per Week: 10-20 hours a week during the semester with a minimum of two hours per shift
Rate of Pay: $15.00 per hour
Purpose of Position: A Recycling Student Employee is needed to assist the Recycling Unit in order to maintain a high quality waste diversion program on campus. This will be achieved by:

  • Data entry of Solid Waste and Recycling unit’s scale tickets
  • Inputting chargeable duties into work order system
  • Reviewing and forwarding billing data
  • Conducting recycling education programs through education and outreach events
  • Ensuring the placement of trash/recycling bins and posters meets campus standards and updating building floor plans as needed
  • Assisting the Recycling Coordinator with ongoing projects, including the development of educational materials and social media content

Requirements
Education: Candidate for a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a related field (at minimum a Sophomore standing). Must be enrolled as an undergraduate at University of Maryland – College Park. Preferred: minimum of 3.0 cumulative GPA. The employee is expected to have a strong interest in sustainability, a professional work ethic, and a desire to make the campus more sustainable. In addition, the employee must be disciplined and self-motivated.

Experience: The Recycling Employee must be comfortable talking with faculty, staff, and students about the benefits of recycling and should have a warm and inviting personality. The employee must be able to use Microsoft Excel and have the ability to read and interpret building floor plans. Attention to detail is required. Strong interest in sustainability. Demonstrated professional work ethic and initiative.
