Fall 2023 Course: Data Wrangling and Visualization (PSLC489R)

Are you collecting and analyzing data for a senior thesis, honors thesis, or capstone project? Are you heading to graduate school? Are you seeking a career that involves analyzing data and communicating the results?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, my fall course on Data Wrangling and Visualization in the R statistical environment (PSLC489R, MW from 9-11) is perfect for you. R has become an essential tool for managing, analyzing, and plotting data. It is used widely in academia, private industry, and government agencies. This course will give you cutting-edge skills in using R that will make you more competitive for, and successful in, positions in any of these sectors in which you need to work with data.

Maybe you have been trying to teach yourself R, but have not managed to do it on your own. Or maybe you have never heard of it, but have been wanting to learn how to make those beautiful graphs you see in papers and talks. Either way, this class is for you. I assume no prior knowledge and take you from the first principles of using R before introducing you to the skills and practices you need to analyze and communicate data in ways that are transparent and repeatable. A more detailed course description can be found in the Schedule of Classes.
