Visitor Services and Education Intern- Summer 2023

Internship Description: The HAF intern will add capacity to Patuxent Research Refuge’s Visitor Services (VS) Team as well as the Masonville Cove Urban Refuge Partnership, implementing plans associated with the National Wildlife Refuge System’s Urban Wildlife Refuge and Urban Wildlife Refuge Partnerships both on and off-site. The HAF intern will focus on relationship building with local Latino groups, partnership development, and planning of LCW event at Patuxent/day of support for LCW event at Masonville Cove:

  • Work with Latino community partners to understand their needs and plan ways to effectively connect people with nature in an urban environment.
  • Build on current relationships (and start new relationships) with local Latino groups and invite them to attend the LCW events.
  • Interns will also gain experience in other park ranger duties, including visitor center operations, monarch program, interpretation and education programing, and conducting special events.
Interns will work and communicate with a HAF Program Manager during their internship. Interns will be expected to participate in scheduled conference calls, webinars, and meetings conducted throughout their term. Interns will capture photos and/or videos for reporting purposes and submit 3 blog posts highlighting their experience and development.
