Pedology - Field and Laboratory Assistant

The UMD Pedology Research Laboratory (PI: Dr. Martin Rabenhorst) in the Dept. of ENST is IMMEDIATELY seeking an undergraduate research assistant to assist with field sampling, processing and analysis of wetland soils. Initial (Fall 2023) field sampling will occur mainly on weekends (while weather is conducive). Sample processing and analysis can be flexible hours to fit your class schedule.

Availability: Immediate – Academic year 2023-24; possible opportunity for Summer 2024 and beyond.

Duties

  • Fieldwork: Working with Lead student to collect soil cores and augered soil samples
  •  Lab work: soil sample processing and analyses (we will train).
  • Assistance with laboratory analytical methods/techniques.

Qualifications
Required

  • Current UMD undergraduate working towards a degree in environmental science, biological science, geoscience, or a related field.
  • Enthusiastic about conducting fieldwork, and comfortable working in challenging field settings
  • Comfortable carrying and using equipment in the field
  • Comfortable working in laboratory setting


Preferred
Classwork in Soil Science
