The Applied Spatial Wildlife Ecology Lab (A-SWEL) in the Environmental Science and Technology Department (ENST) is looking for dedicated individuals to assist a research program starting Fall-Winter 2024. We will be investigating wildlife communities in Montgomery County, Maryland, and their role in maintenance of tick-borne diseases. We need interns to assist in wildlife and tick species identification via camera trap analysis and tick collection in the field.

Applicants are expected to work for at least one semester. Preference will be given to individuals who can stay longer, due to multiple wildlife research projects being run in the lab. This position can also serve as class credit when applicable. Work hours will typically consist of 10-15 hours a week in the lab or in the field.

Preferred candidate qualifications include:

For camera data processing
● Strong computer skills in excel and data organization
● Good time management skills
● Ability to process data independently
● Assist in tick sampling data management

For Various Field Work
● Able to walk 10+ miles and be comfortable lifting/carrying 50 lbs.
● Assist in tick sample collection and data management
● Ability to conduct field work during hot and humid conditions with biting insects
● Ability to communicate effectively with crew members and professionally with the public

Field work requires comfortable hiking clothing such as long socks, breathable long pants, and comfortable hiking boots.
