Project Objectives: The UMD Sustainability Studies Minor seeks to better align the Minor curriculum with new trends in the area of sustainability and bolster the program’s training of future leaders in the field. To this end, we are looking to hire an undergraduate student to conduct comprehensive background research in support of potential curriculum revisions or updates to the Minor.
Responsibilities
● Conduct research and analysis of sustainability programs among institutes of higher education throughout the US and elsewhere to inform improvements to the Sustainability Studies minor curriculum. This includes research of college websites and follow-up phone calls to university staff to obtain more specific details. We aim to research 20-30 programs in detail. Information to be obtained includes: number and content of courses required, number and type of optional courses allowed, existence of a capstone requirement or internship, and any unique and innovative approaches to sustainability studies.
● Conduct research and analysis of current literature on sustainability education. Information will be sought about trends in sustainability research.
● Aid in survey design, distribution and survey data analysis using Qualtrics.
● Conduct research and analysis of current reports and information developed by employers
within both the public and private sectors.
● Synthesize and summarize findings, including writing a final report. Organize files in Google
Drive.

● Experience conducting surveys, interviews or focus groups
Hours and Compensation:
● Expected commitment: average 10 hours/week from June 2025 through April 2026
● Work can be performed remotely with occasional in person meetings with Sustainability Minor program staff during the academic year
● Pay: $17/hour
