The Gull Island Institute is an educational organization that aims to cultivate democratic leadership in an era of climate change. Applications are now open for the 2025 Buzzards Bay Term, our month-long undergraduate liberal arts program which takes place on remote islands off of Cape Cod. This year, the program will run from May 19th to June 13th, 2025, and is entirely tuition-free for all students. Applications are due January 31st, 2025.
We will be hosting two virtual info sessions about the program and application process on January 8th and 22nd at 8pm ET.
The Buzzards Bay Term is a place-based liberal arts program for current and recent undergraduate students interested in what it means to engage in democratic citizenship during a period of ecological transformation. Through transdisciplinary daily seminars, labor projects, and self-governance, students explore critical questions about life in our era of climate change: what is a right relation to the land and water? what makes a place habitable, and what does it mean to inhabit it well?
Students from all disciplines and majors are encouraged to apply.
