We are excited to announce our new Voices of Carson Storytelling Award, a national award recognizing college students who use storytelling to explore climate, environmental action and our relationship with the natural world.
Inspired by Rachel Carson’s legacy as a scientist and storyteller, the award celebrates original writing grounded in creativity, science, wonder and a commitment to a healthier and more just future.
“When Silent Spring was released on Sept. 27, 1962, Rachel Carson’s words helped ignite the environmental movement in the United States,” said RCC Senior Director of Campus and Civic Engagement Diego Tovar. “This award is our way of carrying Rachel Carson’s legacy forward and empowering the next generation to use storytelling to inspire environmental action.”
Students can submit original work in three categories:
- Poetry
- Short stories
- Narrative nonfiction
One winner in each category will receive a $250 prize. Submissions are open through Dec. 31, 2026, with winners announced in February 2027.
