Biden-Harris Administration Launches Nationwide Environmental Justice Climate Corps

  New partnership between EPA and AmeriCorps announced during Climate Week NYC will expand pathways into environmental justice careers as part of President Biden’s American Climate Corps WASHINGTON   – Today, September 25, in commemoration of Climate Week NYC, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and AmeriCorps announced the   Environmental Justice Climate Corps , a new partnership launched as part of President Biden’s American Climate Corps to open doors for people to serve in careers that benefit disadvantaged and other low-income communities. This partnership will support more than 250 AmeriCorps VISTA members nationwide over three years, with each new participating member completing a one-year term of service. This historic initiative is the largest environmental partnership in AmeriCorps’ history and EPA’s first nationwide service effort. Spring 2025 internship at DOJ/ENRD (30 hours a week)

The Department of Justice Environment and Natural Resources Division, Environmental Enforcement Section is seeking applications for student interns for the upcoming semester.  So you know our timeline, our clearance packages go out to in mid-late October for the semester.  Therefore, student information should be submitted by Friday October 4th.  We only have 4-5 slots these days.  Below is an   updated   program description.   Please make sure your students understand that we are asking for a   minimum 8 ‐10 week commitment , with a minimum of 3 days per week. Movie Screening on Environmental Preservation and Indigenous Activism (Oct. 1)

UMD's School of Languages Literatures and Cultures will be screening  We Are Guardians , a documentary on Indigenous and activist efforts to protect the Amazon rainforest. After the screening, there will be a  Q&A with directors  Chelsea Greene, Rob Grobman, and  Edivan Guajajara,  an Indigenous Brazilian activist dedicated to environmental causes, who is also participating in the  NY Climate Week .   It’s a great opportunity for students to learn from someone directly involved in environmental preservation and environmental justice.

Spring Break 2025 in Peru

  The Spring Break 2025 Peru course is  open for applications  until the deadline of Monday, September 23rd!  Course Basics: PLCY 798T:  Sustainable Development, Environmental Policy, and Human Rights in Peru  will run from March 14 to March 23, 2025.  The course is led by Prof. Tom Hilde, Matt Regan, and Claire Squire from the School of Public Policy. The itinerary includes the Amazon rainforest, the Andes mountains, and Lima on the Pacific coast. A description of the course can be found below. This course is a 3-credit graduate course that   also accepts   students from other universities and   senior and junior undergraduates in good academic standing . There is a maximum enrollment for the course, admissions are rolling, and, based on twelve years of experience, the course is usually full.
