Scholarships, Internships and Fellowships Garden Club of America   Each year The Garden Club of America extends an invitation to qualified students at the undergraduate and post graduate levels to apply for one of our 27 merit based scholarships, fellowships, internships and awards. These scholarship offerings fund the study of diverse subjects in the areas of botany, ecology, horticulture, the environment and more. In 2016, 83 awards were made to students studying in the U.S. and abroad. Intern for a Day Intern for a Day  connects undergraduates with alumni, parents, employers and community partners for one day internship/shadowing experiences.  This fall, we have  200+  hosts with  550+   possible shadowing placements in a wide variety of fields and industries! Post-Graduation Planning   ENSP Majors: Do you have questions about  post -graduation planning?   If you are interested in general advice on  post -graduation planning, Professor Joanna Goger, a senior lecturer in ENSP, is available to meet with you on Wednesdays this semester between   10:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.   Please e-mail Professor Goger at  jgoger@umd.edu  if you are interested in setting up a meeting. In your e-mail, please provide:   Your planned graduation month/year (priority will be given to those students graduating in December 2016 and May 2017) 3 time slots (include date and time) that you are available on Wednesdays this semester between   10:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.   If you are not available during this time, we can choose an alternate date and time. A two-sentence description of what you think you might like to do after graduation; and at least one question that you would like answered at the meeting.    
ENSP alumni, reunited! ENSP Terps are everywhere!  Dustin Picard (Marine & Coastal, '13) and Megan Hepner (Politics and Policy , '12) recently ran into eachother at a coral spawning cruise at the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary in the Gulf of Mexico!!   Dustin is a NOAA Corp and is currently stationed at the Sanctuary and Megan is collaborating with the National Marine Sanctuaries as part of the Marine Biodiversity Observation Network project.  photo courtesy of Megan Hepner We're always excited to hear how our alumni are doing and are thrilled to see Dustin and Megan doing so well!

Meeting Invitation for Students Association of State and Territorial Solid Waste Management Officials (ASTSWMO) ASTSWMO is a non-profit environmental trade association representing the waste, materials management, restoration, clean-up and pollution prevention programs of the 50 States, five Territories and the District of Columbia (States) and are located in Washington, DC. They will be holding their next membership meeting on October 27-28 in Washington, DC at the Marriott Marquis Hotel. As part of ASTSWMO’s strategic plan, they have started to focus on establishing relationships with university faculty, students and researchers to collaborate on issues of mutual interest. Seminar Entrepreneurship, Environmentalism and Empathy Tim Williamson ,  ENST Research Associate, will be giving an Environmental Science & Technology Seminar entitled, "Entrepreneurship, Environmentalism, and Empathy". Internship The National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (START)   The National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (START) is looking for interns for the Spring 2017 semester! Students from any institution with   any   major may apply. Current and recently graduated undergraduates, graduate students, and Ph.D. students are eligible. During the internship, interns will receive mentoring, training, and the opportunity to participate in many professional development activities. START will work with academic institutions to enable students to undertake the internship for credit. Volunteers Needed Terps Against Hunger On Sunday, September 25th, Terps Against Hunger will be hosting UMD’s 3rd annual Homecoming Service Event. The organization will be bringing together over 2,000 volunteers to package 400,000 meals. All of the meals packaged during this event will be donated locally, to support hungry children and families in the DC-Metro area. Distribution partners include: Capital Area Food Bank, Maryland Food Bank, Manna Food Center, Miriam’s Kitchen, Shepard’s Table, Nourish Now, and more. The meal packaging process is both fun and simple, bringing UMD students, staff, faculty, alumni, parents/families, and local community members together around tables to serve an important need. 1 in 5 children in the DC area live in food insecure households, and on Sept. 25th you can be part of reducing the burden of hunger. Free Networking Event Maryland Water Monitoring Conference The Maryland Water Monitoring Council is hosting their first Student Networking Event this year at their annual conference, held on December 2, 2016 at the Maritime Institute. The event is geared towards undergraduate students. Midterm Power Event   The Learning Assistance Service is hosting a  Midterm Power   event on   Wednesday, September 28 from 10 am - 2 pm  in the Stamp Atrium.  Midterm Power is designed to provide students with resources and information that will help them prepare for success on midterm exams and projects.     Students will be able to visit various stations to get information about: time management study skills test taking skills math learning mindfulness Representatives from campus academic advising units, academic support units and Recreation and Wellness will be also be available to provide resources.
