CRESST-II/NASA Undergrad Interaction Day (Save the Date)

Save the date and mark your calendars! This year’s  CRESST II and NASA Undergrad Interaction Day  will be held on  Friday, October 29 th  from 12:30 – 3:30 pm ET  with an optional virtual lab tour from 3:30 – 4:00 pm. What is the CRESST II and NASA Undergrad Interaction Day? CRESST II  created this event specifically to give interested undergraduate students a unique look at the research happening at NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) by GSFC leadership and current scientists. The event will also include a discussion about how undergraduate students can collaborate with NASA scientists on these amazing research projects through the NASA/CRESST II summer internship program.   What to Expect? The event will include overview presentations about the work happening in the  GSFC Sciences and Exploration Directorate  from NASA leadership followed by more detailed research presentations from scientists for smaller groups of students. We are hiring 2-3   paid   interns or co-ops to support our EcoServ Project Management team that is focused on projects that decommission commercial spaces with the goal of diverting 80% or more of the surplus furniture from the landfill.  Interns will be responsible for recipient outreach by researching and vetting charitable organizations, maintaining project documents, updating all EcoServ metrics, providing information to vendors, subcontractors, and other project team members. Climate Research & Policy Youth Conference - Sunday, October 3

Join MaryPIRG Student Climate Action Coalition and Sunrise UMBC on  Sunday, October 3rd from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm EST  to hear how professors and graduate students at our universities are interacting and studying the impact of climate on their fields! At our  Climate Research and Policy Youth Conference  topics include  legal responses to climate change, history and historical ecology of the Chesapeake Bay, green concrete, next-generation battery materials, and climate and environmental justice. PPIA and Rangel Summer 2022 International Affairs Programs - Info Sessions

Join the SGA Sustainability Committee

The SGA Sustainability committee is a student group that aims to be the sustainability voice for all students on campus. We pass bills and hold events to educate the campus community, to push the university administration, and to advocate for meaningful climate and environmental action on local and state levels. Last year, we passed a bill asking the University to move it's carbon neutrality deadline to 2025 (which the university did!), held an informative environmental justice event, ran a reusable bag campaign, lobbied for a student-written climate bill in the Maryland General Assembly, investigated implementing glass recycling at restaurants and bars near campus, and so much more! This year, our current work includes: advocating for responsible management of Guilford Woods, including student voices and concerns in the renewal process of the campus' natural-gas fired power plant, running environmental justice events, trying to reduce the waste coming from our research laborat

Audrey Glendenning (ENSP Wildlife Ecology and Management '20) was recently named a Wyss Scholar for Conservation for the American West.  She is currently completing her master's degree in resource conservation at the University of Montana.  Read more about Audrey and her award HERE . Nina Jeffries (ENSP Environmental Econ. '22), was mentioned in a story about the Mona Center Urban Farm . "Operated by the University of Maryland College of Agriculture, the urban farm plants and harvests significant quantities of lettuce, cabbage, spinach, radishes, and other organically grown vegetables in raised planting beds. All of these items are used in the St. Maria’s Meals prepared in the Catholic Charities kitchen in Hyattsville, MD." ( Source ).

UMiami Marine and Atmospheric Science Graduate Degrees
