Farm-Based Education Volunteer Intern Red Wiggler Community Farm Clarksburg, MD Red Wiggler is seeking an individual to assist with both educational efforts and field work for the 2017 season. Educational Responsibilities: - Assist with hands-on tours of the farm for individuals of all ages, about 30% of which have developmental disabilities. - Work with participants in the Vocational Training Program where young adults with developmental disabilities, accompanied by a job coach, learn job skills, basic farm tasks and acquire the skills to become a regular volunteer at Red Wiggler. - Contribute educational pieces and recipes to our CSA newsletter and the blog. - Keep up with regular maintenance of interpretive signage - Assist with other relevant efforts as time allows. Ecological Benefits Summer Internship U.S. National Park Service The U. S. National Park Service (NPS) National Capital Region (NCR), Office of Natural Resources and Science (NRS) is seeking a graduate-level or senior undergraduate student with a background in Forestry, Arboriculture, Ecology, Environmental Modelling, or related fields. The intern will use a modeling program, such as iTree, to evaluate the benefits of trees on National Park land in the National Capital Region. The intern will have the opportunity to analyze the relative ecological benefits conferred by trees using 10 years of data from 425 vegetation plots across the region. Urban Forestry Fellowship Maryland Forestry Foundation The Maryland Forestry Foundation has created a new Urban Forestry Fellowship opportunity. The position is to help plan and promote a state summit on Urban and Community Forestry in 2018 and will run from Sept 1 - June 30, 2018.
