Nature of Work: Under the supervision of an Environmental Health Specialist, summer students will be hired to work in the Environmental Health Bureau. Duties include water sampling, data analysis and environmental health inspections. Students will be trained to perform these functions as well as other duties, such as computer data entry, paperwork and fielding calls from the public. Requires daily travel throughout Anne Arundel County, a personal vehicle available for use with mileage reimbursement provided per Department of Health policies and a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in Maryland. Summary Gain hands-on quantitative and qualitative community-engaged research experience in a very important and current topic! This project is examining the experience of populations who are food insecure on accessing healthy foods, and the experiences of urban farmers on distributing their food. Focused on Prince George’s County as a pilot case study. Project Objectives: Our team is creating a network that aims to work on food redistribution in the food value chain from producers to food distributors to end-consumers to preserve more food, anticipate plausible food emergencies and incentivize commercial operations and business start-ups to reduce the food waste in the supply chain. Entry-level Research Analyst - USDA/Resources for the Future

Summary of Position:   The Research Analyst would work on a USDA-funded research project that explores how farmers use two of America’s largest farm support programs --- the Federal Crop Insurance Program (FCIP) and Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) --- as risk management tools in response to extreme and variable weather, as well as the consequences of increased enrollment in these two programs for the sector’s sensitivity to extreme weather, local economies, and the environment. Climate Equity Fellowship Opportunity in the Northeast U.S.

We are seeking an Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) Fellow for the USDA Northeast Climate Hub. ORISE works to recruit and prepare the next generation of our nation’s scientific workforce. The Northeast Climate Hub  develops science-based, region- specific information and technologies, and shares products with natural resource managers to enable climate-informed decision-making.   This fellowship will offer the opportunity to collaborate with our team to further two outcomes: addressing critical climate equity questions, and contributing to the design of a graduate student network. NOAA Chesapeake Bay Office - Summer 2023 Internships

Each summer, the NOAA Chesapeake Bay Office and Chesapeake Research Consortium team up to offer several paid summer internships primarily for college students. In summer 2023, the NOAA Chesapeake Bay Office will offer five internships covering a range of Chesapeake Bay science, policy and education efforts. Each paid internship will run 12 weeks (mid-May through mid-August). They are intended for students who will be entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year of college study.  Applications are due February 20, 2023.
