ACADEMIC HOUSEKEEPING During the schedule adjustment period December graduates – must apply for graduation : http://www.testudo.umd.edu All ENSP students earn B.S. degrees. Be sure you mark it correctly when you apply to graduate. Student Research Assistant Opportunity Environmental Decision Support Science I am looking for 3-4 motivated undergraduate or graduate students to join my research lab this semester or next semester, the Environmental Decision Support Science Lab. We’re a multidisciplinary team that conducts research in environmentaldecision support and indicators, focused on how we can improve evidence-based environmental and climate decisions now. My team is located in the UMD Discovery District, about a half mile from the College Park Metro Station (there is free parking and a 123 UMD Shuttle that goes directly from campus (Regents bus stop) to immediately outside our building). A message from ENSPire   Welcome back everyone!   Read on for an important announcement about the restructuring and rebranding of ENSPire. The main takeaway is that we will continue to plan many of the same events, but we are now operating as the ENSP Student Advisory Board, and all communications will come through the departmental listserv rather than this listserv. If you are an ENSP major, you’ll still be getting the updates about our events, they’ll just come through Angela. 2 Fall 2018 wildlife opportunities   Foraging Behavior and Movement of White-Footed Mouse (Peromyscus leucopus) Study   1.  INTERNSHIP I am a Master student in the ENST program, looking for help on an upcoming project that will start May 2018 and run until November 2018. Applications should be submitted no later than September 4 2018. In this study, I will be collaring white-footed mice to track their movement and behavior as it pertains to tick control treatments. This study falls under a larger research project run by the USDA in Howard County, Maryland. Interns will be required to help collect movement data on mice and assist with the monthly mouse trapping. Interns are expected to work a total of 15-20 hours a week and are able to work 2 to 3 days out of the week. This job requires extensive telemetry work and small mammal handling. Fall Internship U.S. Senate Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee The U.S. Senate Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee is accepting resumes for their fall internship program. They are hoping to recruit an intern from the University of Maryland. Fall internships last approximately ten-twenty weeks, dependent on the schedule of the intern. The internship includes a monthly stipend. Though no specific major or program is necessary, an interest in agriculture is required. Applicants who can work full-time are preferred, but part time applicants are encouraged as well. Recent graduates or students attaining advanced degrees are also welcome to apply. Summer River Restoration Internship Anacostia Watershed Society (AWS) The Anacostia Watershed Society (AWS) is looking for environmental science and Landscape Architecture (and related disciplines) students for its 2018 Fall River Restoration Internship program (September to November). This is a great opportunity to get students involved in real world watershed restoration issues such as stormwater management, ecological restoration, wildlife conservation, arboriculture, environmental monitoring, outdoor recreation, community outreach and environmental education.
