An internship with the Senator’s office is a terrific chance for students to gain first-hand experience with both the legislative process and constituent services in the United States Senate.   Washington interns assist the office in a variety of legislative and administrative capacities. Interns support legislative staff by conducting policy research, attending briefings, and preparing for hearings. They are also asked to give tours of the U.S. Capitol to constituents and assist with constituent correspondence by letter, email, and phone. Collaborative Service Event Guilford Run Restoration Project UMD's Student Chapter of The Wildlife Society, ENSPire, and the Arboretum Outreach Center are teaming up for a collaborative service event . They will be cleaning up the Guilford Run bioretention area near Lot 3 on October 29 from 10am-1pm. Tools and training will be provided on-site. Volunteers should wear long pants and a shirt that can get dirty, along with closed-toed shoes. Bring plenty of water! Ag and Environmental Law Conference UMD Agriculture Law Education Initiative The University of Maryland’s Agriculture Law Education Initiative (ALEI) has recruited a dynamic panel of presenters to discuss the intersection of environmental regulation and agriculture in Maryland at the upcoming 2016 Agriculture and Environmental Law Conference. The conference is geared toward both the farming and environmental communities, including farmers, students, attorneys, regulators, agriculture professionals, environmental associations, and elected officials. ALEI hopes the conference will advance the dialogue about the system of environmental laws that affect farmers across Maryland. Some topics of discussion this year are water quality and the Chesapeake Bay, Food Safety and Modernization Act, and on-farm alternative energy production. NOAA Hollings Scholarship for Sophomores Attention SOPHOMORES studying atmospheric and oceanic sciences, environmental engineering, environmental science and policy , and other majors with a strong environmental focus or interest.  In the last two years, 13 Maryland students have won scholarship awards worth up to $9,500 annually and paid summer research internships – and over half of them were ENSP majors! The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Ernest F. Save America’s Forests Washington, DC Save America's Forests is a nationwide educational and organizing campaign working to change United States policy to protect and restore America's last wild and natural forests.
