Applications Open - Department and College Honors Programs Honors College Research Grant The Honors Research Grant Program supports the research efforts of students in the departmental and college Honors programs. Students may apply for grants up to $500.00 for any legitimate purpose that would enhance their research efforts. For example, grant money could be used toward travel to conferences or special research collections or for the purchase of equipment unique to the student’s project not covered by a mentor’s grant. Generally, grant money is not awarded for the purchase of common laboratory equipment. A student may receive the award once. For more information and the application, click here . On-Campus Research Opportunity Climate, Water Security and Environmental Awareness in the Middle East The United States has one of the largest ecological footprints on Earth – yet some Middle Eastern countries, such as the UAE and Qatar, have even great water use footprints, despite being some of the most water-poor.  UMD's Department of Anthropology is investigating the link between environmental awareness in the Middle East and sustainability of water use in the region over the last 15 years. The aim of this research will be to inform policy that can encourage environmental sustainability in the region especially for water use in agriculture, industry and sanitation, as this resource will become increasingly scarce with global climate change.  Requirements & Overview: We require a research assistant (Sophomore, Junior, or Senior student) to assist in an online media research project. Study Participants needed UMD Center for Advanced Study of Language Participate in the Study of Thinking and Reasoning! Complete questionnaires and computerized cognitive tasks involving critical thinking, processing, and decision-making. The study involves 2 sessions of 1-4 hours each.  Earn $10/hr at session 1 and $40/hr at session 2. The study takes place in the Patapsco building (Suite 1110) near the College Park Metro. Summer Research Internship Maryland Sea Grant Summer REU Program Are you looking for a summer research internship studying ocean, coastal or environmental science? If so, please check out the Maryland Sea Grant Summer REU program. They bring upper-level undergraduate students to the Chesapeake Bay to conduct individual research projects with a scientist-mentor at the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science. They select undergrads in many disciplines, including engineering, biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, ecology and marine and environmental science.
