Green Roof Restoration Wildlife Society   F​ rom 11am-2pm on Saturday, December 3 ,   ​the   Wildlife   Society​  will be partnering with the campus arboretum to restore the green roofs on campus. ​​Everyone should wear long pants and   ​a ​ shirt that can get dirty, along with close ​- toed shoes ​.  B ring water and snacks.   ​Everyone should  meet in front of the DOTS building (bldg #424), next to the lacrosse/field hockey fields. Special access is required to get on the green roofs so you must arrive on time to participate because of security reasons.    Below is a Google Doc for the green roof restoration. Volunteer Internship Opportunities National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) The NOAA Office of National Marine Sanctuaries currently has three openings for volunteer interns at their headquarters office in Silver Spring, Maryland. Volunteer internships may count towards course credit and our office has previously hosted interns through the Washington Semester program.   The NOAA Office of National Marine Sanctuaries serves as the trustee for a network of underwater parks encompassing more than 170,000 square miles of marine and Great Lakes waters from Washington state to the Florida Keys, and from Lake Huron to American Samoa. The network includes a system of 13 national marine sanctuaries and Papahānaumokuākea and Rose Atoll marine national monuments.   Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. ENGL 479I: Global Ecologies, Environmental Literature, and Film Professor Sangeeta Ray M/W 5:00-6:15 0201 Tawes Hall In this course we will read canonical and non-canonical works that deal with environmental issues by American, Caribbean, South Asian, and African writers. Texts will include fiction, memoirs, and poetry. We will also examine films, both popular and documentary, that deal with the environment and that allow us to explore various perspectives on ecological issues. Students will be required to post questions on Discussion Board as well as keep journal entries. Students will also write 5 one-page papers and 2 long papers on assigned topics. In addition, there will be a final group project.

Smart and Sustainable Campuses Conference Students needed!   American University’s Office of Sustainability is collaborating with the University of Maryland to host a student summit alongside the Smart and Sustainable Campuses Conference. The second annual Smart and Sustainable Campuses Student Summit will take place on March 26, 2017. This is a large event that takes a lot planning, and we would love for a few UMD students to join us in preparation for the summit! Below are a few areas in which we could use assistance. You can preference how you contribute by task or time commitment. Communications Intern EcoAgriculture Partners Reporting to the Communications Manager, the intern will support communications activities for EcoAgriculture Partners and the Landscapes for People, Food and Nature Initiative over a negotiable period that can begin immediately. The position is unpaid and interns are expected to work between 20 and 40 hours per week at EcoAgriculture Partners' headquarters in Washington, DC. Doris Duke Conservation Scholars Program & Internship University of Michigan   There is an exciting new program at the University of Michigan--the Doris Duke Conservation Scholars Program (DDCSP UM). DDCSP UM is an exciting two-year research and internship opportunity for bright, curious undergraduate students interested in conservation, nature, and the environment. The program is aimed at bringing more undergraduates currently underrepresented in the environmental field into the conservation arena. If you have a specific interest natural sciences, environmental studies/science, or conservation, we urge you to consider applying! In addition to a $4,250 stipend, accepted students will also receive room and board and travel expenses to and from Ann Arbor, Michigan each summer. PAID -- full-time -- 5-month internships Conservation and Land Management (CLM) Each year, 75-100 college graduates take part the CLM Internship Program as part of a partnership with federal agencies such as the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), National Park Service (NPS), U.S. Forest Service (USFS), U.S. Geologic Survey (USGS), U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) and others.
