Honors Research Grants For students who are in the ENSP Departmental Honors Program Attention Departmental Honors students: Apply for the Honors College Research Grant The Honors Research Grant Program supports the research efforts of students in the departmental and college Honors programs. Students may apply for grants up to $500.00 for any legitimate purpose that would enhance their research efforts. For example, grant money could be used toward travel to conferences or special research collections or for the purchase of equipment unique to the student’s project not covered by a mentor’s grant. Generally, grant money is not awarded for the purchase of common laboratory equipment. A student may receive the award once. Parking Solutions Competition International Parking Institute The International Parking Institute (IPI) Parking Solutions Competition ​ is a design and development challenge that aims to engage with ​college ​students in a challenging real-world parking scenario. This year, competitors are asked to design the garage of the future, with a 10 to 20 year outlook. From IPI: ​"​The urban landscape has changed rapidly due to demographics, demand for more livable places and communities, and transformative (and disruptive) technologies. In the face of all this change, parking structures will continue to play a critical role in our cities and towns – but the planning, design and construction will evolve. Latino Heritage Internship Program Hispanic Access Foundation and the National Park Service (NPS) are thrilled to announce their 4th summer of the Latino Heritage Internship Program (LHIP)! Documentary Screening Between Earth & Sky There will be a special showing of Between Earth and Sky, a documentary about climate change in Alaska, its impacts on the environments and communities there, and what it may mean for the rest of the globe. Summer 2018 Study Abroad in Greece NEW : Summer study abroad 3-credit course on the Mediterranean diet and culture: Health Implications (NFSC498M) involving 4 days at UMD and a 2-week travel to Greece. h ttps://globalmaryland.umd.edu/offices/education-abroad/program/11523  The length of the course, including travel to Greece, will be approximately 3 weeks and will include field trip/service learning and class time. We will spend 4 days in Athens and the rest of the time in Nafplion, Peloponnese area. Activities will include cooking classes, field trips to cheese, yogurt and wine making factories, to olive tree groves and olive oil processing and preservation. Hiking trips will be led in the surrounding areas to learn about Greek mythology and the exploration of wild herbs and their use in cooking. This course will satisfy the NFSC restricted elective. ​An information meeting will be held ​on January 24 in 1102 HJ Patterson building at 4pm.

Spring 2018 internship Anacostia Watershed Society (AWS) The Anacostia Watershed Society (AWS) is looking for environmental science and Landscape Architecture (and related disciplines) students for its 2018 Spring River Restoration Internship program (March-May). This is a great opportunity to get students involved in real world watershed restoration issues such as stormwater management, ecological restoration, wildlife conservation, arboriculture, environmental monitoring, outdoor recreation, community outreach and environmental education. Summer 2018 Internship Harry R. Hughes Center for Agro-Ecology Summer 2018 Russell Brinsfield Agro-Ecology Internship Program Law students and undergraduate students interested in careers that involve environmental conservation, agriculture, forestry, and/or policy should consider this summer experience. Two students will be selected for a residential internship which includes a competitive salary, free housing located at the Wye Research and Agriculture Center in Queenstown, Maryland and the opportunity to interact with leaders in policy, agriculture and environmental conservation. The internship will introduce you to a number of complex agricultural and forestry issues including nutrient management for the Chesapeake Bay, climate change, and local food production. During the course of the internship, you will meet diverse stakeholders and engage in the complex interaction between agricultural and forestry practitioners with the environmental conservation and policy community.
