PAID -- Undergraduate Assistant - apply by 5/7 UMD Pedology (Soils) Lab The UMD Pedology Lab is looking to fill an undergraduate position starting ASAP and continuing through the end of July, with the possibility of continuing thereafter. Hours would vary, with full time work expected during the peak of field sampling in May and July. Job duties would be a mix of lab work and field work.  Lab activities would include but not be limited to running particle size analyses, prepping soils for carbon analyses and X-ray fluorescence, and preparing IRIS tubes for redox studies.  Field work would consist of working on our research boat the R/V Wassent on the Rhode River, helping to collect and describe core samples of subaqueous soil/estuarine sediments.  You will obtain experience operating a vibracorer and several types of soil augers.  No extensive background experience is required, this is a good opportunity to develop both lab and field skills while getting paid.  In addit
Maryland Parents' Association Scholarship - apply by 5/11 Applications are currently being accepted for the Maryland Parents Association Student Scholarships . The awards provide assistance to current undergraduate students in good standing who may be unable to continue their education at the University due to extenuating personal or family financial circumstances.  Thanks to the generosity of Chatham and parent donors, scholarships of up to $2,000 per student will be awarded for the 2016-2017 academic year. PAID - 6-8 Field Assistants - apply by 5/5 UMD Global Ecology Lab The Global Ecology Lab (Dr. Hurtt's lab) is looking to hire 6-8, undergraduate, graduate or recently graduated students to participate in a field research campaign during Summer 2016 (preference will be given to undergraduates).   This fieldwork will be in support of our ongoing NASA Carbon Monitoring System (CMS) research initiative.   Field research assistants will conduct vegetation sampling across the state of Delaware.  This is an out-of-town position, currently planned over a 2-3 week period in June, with the possibility of extension .    Daily duties will include: Navigation to field plots using car GPS and handheld GPS units Communication with landowners Measurement of tree diameter and tree heights at field sites Tree species identification at field sites Detailed and accurate recording of all data at field sites, and computer database entry   Possible data management and GIS processing

Someone, somewhere, used the wrong word for "survey"!  The University (and we) are very interested in learning about what you do and where you go, after graduation; hence, more and more colleges/departments are using online surveys to gather this information.  I would encourage you to complete such requests, as it'll help UM faculty and staff help teach and advise future generations of students.
