CONSERVE Internship - Summer 2020 CONSERVE is a project funded by the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture. CONSERVE (COordinating Nontraditional Sustainable watER Use in Variable climatEs) is a Center of Excellence at the nexus of sustainable water reuse, food, and health, and a part of our project includes a summer internship program for undergraduate students studying agricultural and natural sciences, public health, engineering, economics, policy and law, spatial analysis, communications, and media production. Ecological Design Competition for Baltimore-Based Students The Hopkins Ecological Design Initiative is a new interdisciplinary effort at Johns Hopkins University for collaborative research, teaching, and public exploration of ecological alternatives. They are launching an ecological design competition for local college and university students and are are inviting teams of students to develop a response to this year’s annual theme at HEDI, “Food Systems.” The work of five finalist teams will be displayed for one month at Gallery Q on the Homewood campus next spring, and the winning team will receive $2000 as a seed fund to further develop their project. They will be hosting an incubator event on November 8 to help students form teams and develop their ideas, with a public judging event to take place in early December, stay tuned for more on this. Doris Duke Conservation Scholars Call for applications! The Doris Duke Conservation Scholars Program is an exciting opportunity for first- and second-year students with a demonstrated interest in environmental issues and cultural diversity to receive training, support, mentorship, and up to $10,000 over two years for p aid research experiences and internships.  During the first year Scholars participate in an eight-week, immersive field course on conservation practice, leadership and ecological research while traveling with a close group of peers and mentors through California. During the second summer, Scholars pursue eight-week research and practice internships with nationally recognized conservation organizations, labs and agencies. A professional development retreat after the second summer brings together the Scholar cohort and prepares them to apply for jobs and graduate school. Bat Fest 2019 UMD's Student Chapter of The Wildlife Society is hosting its annual Bat Fest on October 25th in Animal Science Building 0408. Udall Scholarship in Environmental Issues Are you a sophomore or junior strongly committed to making a difference in environmental issues through your studies, community service, and career plans? Do you have an outstanding record of activism, leadership, and research on environmental issues? Do you have an excellent record of undergraduate studies, internships and/or research related to the environment? Learn about the Udall Scholarship in Environmental Issues, a program that seeks to identify future environmental leaders in fields including public policy, engineering, science, education, urban planning and renewal, business, health, justice, and economics. Udall Scholars take part in a five-day conference in Tucson, Arizona where they meet with other Scholars, elected officials and environmental leaders. NOAA Hollings Scholarship Attention SOPHOMORES studying atmospheric and oceanic sciences, environmental engineering, environmental sciences and policy, or ANY major with a strong environmental focus or interest! The Hollings Scholarship provides two-year academic scholarships (up to a maximum of $9,500 per year) for full-time study, and a 10-week, full-time, paid internship position ($650/week) the summer after junior year at a NOAA facility. Ecological Society of America/USGS Summer 2020 Internships The Ecological Society of America is pleased to partner with the U.S. Geological Survey to offer summer internships to outstanding field-trained undergraduates. D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals visit On Monday, October 7, 2019, Mrs. Joanna Goger took students from her ENSP330 course (Intro to Environmental Law) to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals. They had the opportunity to hear an oral argument in a Clean Air Act case brought by the Sierra Club against the EPA!

Spring 2020 Internship Department of Justice- Environment and Natural Resources Division, Environmental Enforcement Section Overview : The Environmental Enforcement Section is one of the largest litigating Sections in the Department and includes nearly one‐half of the Division's lawyers. The Section is responsible for bringing civil judicial actions under most federal laws enacted to protect public health and the environment from the adverse effects of pollution, such as the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, Oil Pollution Act, RCRA and the Superfund law (CERCLA). The breadth of the Section's practice is extensive and challenging. It includes cases of national scope, such as cases against multiple members of an identified industry, to obtain broad compliance with the environmental laws.
