Internships Maryland Department of Transportation Internships at MDOT State Highway Administration The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) Transportation Internship Program (TI) and the Administration Internship Program (AI) expose college students to careers in the state highway sector within Maryland’s integrative transportation system. Interns are placed in full-time assignments in an MDOT SHA office, mentored by senior-level engineers, higher-level technicians, team leaders and colleagues. BSOS Scholarships Available The College offers several scholarships to current students (see below) and each scholarship has individual eligibility criteria. Scholarship awards are granted one time for the Fall semester. The application for Fall 2020 Scholarships is due February 10 at 9AM. Eligibility Requirements: Submit a complete application by February 10, 2020 at 9AM. Have completed at least one semester (Fall 2019 or earlier) at the University of Maryland. Plan to attend the University of Maryland during the Fall 2020 semester - Students graduating Spring 2020 are not eligible to apply. Be enrolled in a BSOS major or an ENSP track housed within BSOS. Submit all application materials by the deadline (see below). Incomplete applications will not be considered. Meet and maintain the original scholarship qualifications; if not met at the time of Fall 2020 funds disbursement, the scholarship will not be awarded. Gilman Study Abroad Scholarship for Pell Grant Recipients Are you a Pell Grant recipient and U.S. citizen planning to study abroad in summer 2020, fall 2020, or AY 2020-21?  You may be eligible to apply for the U.S. State Department’s Gilman Scholarship , which provides up to $5,000 for study abroad and up to $8,000 if you are studying a critical need language. Latino Heritage Internship Program Shenandoah National Park Natural Resource Interpretive Assistant - Shenandoah, VA The Shenandoah LHIP intern will develop and present professional thematic interpretive programs (such as guided walks, talks, junior ranger programs, and evening programs) about the Park’s significance to a wide variety of audiences (50%). These ranger programs will focus on the park's geologic story and emerging critical issues such as climate change and preservation of night skies, as well as other relevant Park topics. Our programs are given in a diversity of park locations including campgrounds, trails, visitor centers, and historic buildings and range in length from 15 minutes to 2 hours. Audience sizes can vary from 2 to 50+ people. The LHIP intern will also perform other duties in connection with staffing the visitor center and will provide information and informal interpretation during fixed station and roving assignments (50%). Summer Exploration Internship Program Summer Exploration Internship Program The Summer Exploration Internship Program is a new initiative of the Institute for Earth and Space Exploration at the University of Western Ontario, Canada ( http://space.uwo.ca ). This program will provide Canadian and international undergraduate students with an opportunity to perform cutting-edge, hands-on research on a range of topics in an interdisciplinary environment. Forest Monitoring Technician Summer 2020 The Pennsylvania State University Department of Ecosystem Science and Management is hiring two seasonal technicians to collect forest monitoring data in eight national parks in Pennsylvania and West Virginia, including the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, New River Gorge National River, and Gauley River National Recreational Area. This work is part of a long-term monitoring program that provides park staff with crucial information on the condition of the parks vegetation and how this condition is changing over time. The position will begin in early May 2020 and continue for 14-17 weeks with compensation of $14-16 per hour depending on experience.
