Summer REU Program in Marine Science - U. Delaware

Applications are now being accepted for the  Summer REU Program in Marine Science   at the University of Delaware, an NSF-Funded Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program.   The program will take place from   June 3 to August 9, 2024,   at the University of Delaware's Hugh R. Sharp campus in the beach community of Lewes, located on the shores of the Delaware Bay and Atlantic Ocean.     Interns will work with faculty in a research-intensive setting on a research topic in chemical, physical, or biological oceanography, marine biology or marine geology. In addition to hands-on research experience, student support includes a $6,900 stipend, campus housing, and travel assistance.   The deadline to apply is February 09, 2024  More information and the application can be found on our  website .   Dr. Jennifer Hadden is launching  a new course   c alled   "Global Environmental Justice" for Spring '24. This class involves two credits on campus and then a one-credit study abroad trip to Montreal for Spring Break. The Office of Sustainability is excited to host a lecture on the topic of mindful consumption. The lecture with Dr. Giovanni Baiocchi from the Department of Geographical Sciences will take place in Stamp 2113 on Thursday, November 16th from 3-4pm. Dr. Baiocchi will discuss UMD’s research connecting geographical location, socioeconomic status, and carbon footprints and the importance of considering your choices as a consumer. Communication Officer The Climate Change Program is responsible for developing and implementing nation-leading policies to reduce and sequester greenhouse gas emissions to mitigate the impacts of climate change. The Communications Officer ensures that Maryland residents have access to information related to climate change and MDE’s response to these issues. The incumbent in this position creates content, maintains the Climate Change Program’s website, and the website of the Maryland Commission on Climate Change.  In addition, the incumbent will also distribute electronic messages, prepare presentations and internal memos, and conduct public outreach to share information regarding climate change.
