Three Undergraduate Student Intern Opportunities for the Spring of 2025 in the Environmental Crimes Section, U.S. Department of Justice

  About the Office : The Environment and Natural Resources Division of the U.S. Department of Justice is seeking three undergraduate student interns for its Environmental Crimes Section in Washington, DC, for the Spring of 2025 starting in January for 12-15 hours per week. The internship will be hybrid (in office and remote). The Environmental Crimes Section is responsible for prosecuting individuals and corporations that have violated laws designed to protect the environment and/or unlawfully covered up those violations. It is at the forefront in changing industry and public awareness to recognize that environmental violations are serious infractions that transgress basic interests and values. The Section works closely with criminal investigators for the Environmental Protection Agency, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and other law enforcement agencies in prosecuting criminal violations of the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensat

Hiring: Sustainable Transportation Assistant

  To answer your questions about the    Sustainable Transportation Assistant :  Pay : $16.50/hour (also stated in the job description), 10-15 hours, 20 max, per week Tuition Remission : Not available, unfortunately. This is not a Graduate Assistantship, but a part-time employee position.  Academic Credit : How would we, as a department in the Administration, issue course credit? We do pay, however (see above)!  Standing : While graduate students are preferred, I also will accept undergrad applications if they meet the   qualifications   in the job description. Thanks!

Wildlife Internship with ENST Applied Spatial Wildlife Ecology Lab

Community Immunity Wildlife Research Wildlife Internship Openings The Applied Spatial Wildlife Ecology Lab (A-SWEL) in the Environmental Science and Technology Department (ENST) is looking for dedicated individuals to assist a research program starting Fall-Winter 2024. We will be investigating wildlife communities in Montgomery County, Maryland, and their role in maintenance of tick-borne diseases. We need interns to assist in wildlife and tick species identification via camera trap analysis and tick collection in the field. Applicants are expected to work for at least one semester. Preference will be given to individuals who can stay longer, due to multiple wildlife research projects being run in the lab. This position can also serve as class credit when applicable. Work hours will typically consist of 10-15 hours a week in the lab or in the field. Study Abroad to Dominican Republic to Study Sustainable Agriculture

Sustainable Agriculture and Environment in Developing Countries is a combination of a 1 credit seminar class and a 2 credit study abroad class (ANSC 371, ANSC 372). This is an opportunity to obtain 3 credits toward the Sustainability Elective (social and human dimensions), Diversity: Cultural Competence, Scholarship in Practice, and upper level Animal Science elective.  I believe this class will provide a lot of knowledge of agriculture and a different perspective that isn’t readily available in traditional classes. The Seminar course meets on Mondays at 4:00-5:30.  The Travel portion will be to Dominican Republic in January 7-21, 2024.  The first lecture will be September 9.

Got a Fall 2024 internship? Want to get ENSP386 credit for it?

  If you're completing a FALL  internship , and you wish to get credit for it  THIS FALL ,  please READ THIS PAGE CAREFULLY. You'll need to submit a completed  internship  proposal before you can be registered for ENSP386. Proposals are due to Angela Mazur-Gray by September  6 , 2024. You will not be adding yourself to ENSP386. Angela will take care of adding you to the course once she has received (and reviewed) your  Internship  Proposal. Your  Internship  Proposal will include:  Coversheet At least six academic and/or career objectives related to the content of the  internship Description of work activities Proposed academic research topic AND seven (7) examples of scholarly source materials for your term paper (including at least 3 peer-reviewed articles). Your research paper topic is of your choosing and should connect the content of your  internship  with the content of your concentration (and not necessarily what you did during your  internship  experience). National Aquarium Volunteer Opportunities

 Just a reminder that there are two new wildlife-related courses for students to take this fall (Restricted Electives for Wildlife students): ENST499A- Special Topics in Environmental Science and Technology; Urban Ecology (formerly ENST461)  - 3 credits Prerequisite: BSCI160 and BSCI161. Urban Ecology is an interdisciplinary subject at the intersection of social, environmental, and economic systems. This course will examine ecology in the city (i.e. why do certain species live in certain greenspaces?), ecology of the city (e.g. how do urban ecological processes influence the health and safety of human residents?), and ecology for the city (i.e. how do we plan and restore greenspaces in a just way so that all residents have equitable access to nature?). This course will have a strong focus on natural systems within urban ecosystems.
