REUs  - Summer Research Experiences NSF-funded Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REUs)  (link is external) are excellent opportunities for highly qualified students between junior and senior years. S uccessful applicants generally have a 3.25+ GPA and previous experience such as Maryland Student Researchers or a significant internship .  Typically, REU sites select 8-12 students from across the country; and provide housing, social activities, and a $5,000+ stipend.  Approximately 1-4 ENSP students participate in REUs each summer; it's a great way to try a career as a scientist. Application deadlines typically fall between February 1 - March 15 (varies by institution) and require a personal statement, resume, and 1-2 faculty recommendations . Most participants are rising seniors; however, rising juniors and new graduates may be eligible in some cases. Environmental Education Internships (PAID) -- apply by 3/1/16 The Wetlands Institute,  Stone Harbor, NJ Education internships are for undergraduate students with an interest in environmental or outdoor education and/or classroom science education and have completed at least two years of college.   In this internship, you’ll work inside and outside, with visitors of all ages, on land and mud and water and boats and with live animals. As a Wetlands Institute education intern, you’ll work hard, never be bored, and develop the skills you need to continue your career in the education/interpretive field.   Education interns have a regular 40 hour/week schedule, usually 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or 11:00 a.m.- 7:00 p.m., working five days a week (one weekend day and evening included). Some of the jobs our interns will take on include: Educational Salt Marsh Safari Walks Fishing, Seining and Crabbing Programs B ack-bay Kayak and Boat Tours Aquarium Feeding Programs Daily Creatur
Chesapeake Bay Trust Grant Intern (paid) – Spring Semester (p/t) and Summer (f/t) - apply ASAP   Applications will begin to be reviewed upon receipt.  The Chesapeake Bay Trust, a non-profit, state-chartered grant-making organization supported by the Treasure the Chesapeake (Bay plate) license plate program, seeks an intern interested in gaining experience in the non-profit sector. The intern will work at the Chesapeake Bay Trust January through May at a rate of $10 per hour, with a minimum of four hours per week and a maximum of 10 hours per week and will transition in June to the Trust’s full-time, ten-week summer internship program that offers a $3,400 stipend.   Duties at the Trust during the spring semester include a variety of administrative grant-related tasks on our portfolio of K-12 environmental education, on-the-ground watershed and habitat restoration, and citizen engagement projects, including K-12 environmental education grant review.  Duties at the Tr

A Student Summit at the Smart and Sustainable Campuses Conference We are pleased to a nnounce the addition of a Student Summit on Sunday, April 3 at the Smart and Sustainable Campuses Conference in Baltimore. Formerly the SEED conference at American University, the Summit will bring together higher education students for curated workshops, facilitated discussion, and peer-to-peer presentations. Register now to attend for $35 (includes lunch and reception) and submit a proposal to present at the summit . Deadline for proposals is February 1. Governor’s Summer Internship Program - apply by 3/18/16 The   Governor’s Summer Internship Program  (GSIP) introduces students to the challenges and rewards of working within Maryland state government.  This fellowship program provides the best and the brightest of Maryland’s college students with the opportunity to work full-time in state agencies while being mentored by senior level administrators, such as department secretaries and directors.   Additionally, fellows attend biweekly seminars to explore all facets of state government, speak with key decision makers, and receive coaching by a UMBC Political Science professor on policy writing.  The fellows work together in groups, applying the knowledge gained in the seminars and at their sites to research and prepare a policy analysis and recommendation.  The program culminates in a celebration at the Maryland State House in Annapolis, where fellows present their policies to the Governor and other key decision makers!  Stude
