Winter Break Reminders & Resources

I Bird I Vote February 3

  On February 3, scientists, conservationists, environmental advocates, and legislators will come together to highlight Audubon’s policy priorities that will address the impact that climate change and habitat loss have had on birds, as well as actions our elected officials and all of us can take in Maryland to protect birds. Speakers will include National Audubon Society staff, elected officials, and leaders of Maryland environmental organizations. This all-day event will be full of conservation and conversation, and will provide you with the opportunity to learn how to advocate for Maryland’s birds and the places they need to survive. This will be an optional bird walk before the day’s programming.   The I Bird I Vote Maryland Conservation Summit will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024, from 9:00am to 3:00pm at the Chesapeake Bay Foundation ( https://www.cbf.org/ )  headquarters in Annapolis, MD. Registration is $30 per person, and will include coffee, snacks, lunch, and admission

  NOAA Ocean Exploration is excited to announce that the application for the 2024  Explorer-in-Training Program  is now open!  This year, the Explorer-in-Training Program will feature two paid internship options: (a) 2 to 4-week expedition-based opportunities supporting ocean mapping operations on the  Okeanos Explorer  and (b) 10-week spring and summertime opportunities. The 10-week internships give participants an experiential learning opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge through long-term projects supported by NOAA Ocean Exploration mentors. The expedition-based internships provide support for specific NOAA Ocean Exploration expeditions, giving participants the chance to contribute to mission efforts while gaining tangible skills that benefit their future pursuits.   The  Global FEWture Alliance Symposium  will take place on January 19th 2024 in the Stamp Student Union . See the attached flyer for more information and to register. We work across the environmental disciplines, including those who work in agriculture, climate science, public health, environmental justice, and the environmental humanities.  It's a great opportunity for  undergrads , grads, postdocs, faculty teachers and researchers, and local community partners to warm up winter session and synthesize nexus ideas, including research, teaching, and policy discussions. Paid internships with NPS - Appalachian Conservation Corps and the National Capital Region

Summer REU Program in Marine Science - U. Delaware

Applications are now being accepted for the  Summer REU Program in Marine Science   at the University of Delaware, an NSF-Funded Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program.   The program will take place from   June 3 to August 9, 2024,   at the University of Delaware's Hugh R. Sharp campus in the beach community of Lewes, located on the shores of the Delaware Bay and Atlantic Ocean.     Interns will work with faculty in a research-intensive setting on a research topic in chemical, physical, or biological oceanography, marine biology or marine geology. In addition to hands-on research experience, student support includes a $6,900 stipend, campus housing, and travel assistance.   The deadline to apply is February 09, 2024  More information and the application can be found on our  website .
