Entomology Undergrad Research Technician Position

Research details: Research in the Shrewsbury laboratory focuses on the ecology and management of invasive insects in urban forests and landscapes. Ongoing projects examine the role of native and non-native natural enemies and pathogens in managing invasive insects such as spotted lanternfly. Assistance is needed on research projects involving field and lab studies. This is an excellent opportunity to gain research experience, learn about ecology and the role invasive insects play in urban and natural environments, and biological control. This position provides an opportunity for Research or Internship credits.
Skills and Experience: Must enjoy working outside under varying environmental conditions and be able to perform physical work and walk on uneven terrain. Must be organized, reliable, responsible and able to work both independently and as part of a team. Strong interest, course work and/or experience in entomology, horticulture, pest management, community ecology and/or biology is desired. Lab or field research experience are desirable, but not required. Must be a UMD student and have a valid MD driver’s license.
Starting Date: early to mid-May
Hours: ~30-40 hours/week through August, with the possibility to continue part time in the fall semester.
Hourly wage: Based on experience
