Spring 2021 Registration Information

Spring 2021 Registration Dates have been released

To find your registration date/time:  go to  testudo.umd.edu >>  Appointment & Registration Status

READ. THIS. CAREFULLY:

1.   ADVISING

Advising is MANDATORY for all ENSP students, regardless of Concentration, GPA, or credits earned.

All advising will be handled virtually this semester.

  • Please view the top of THIS PAGE for information on advising appointment preferences, by concentration.
  • NOTE: Advisors have different preferences re: contact information; some prefer phone calls, some prefer e-mails, at least one has an on-line appointment system.  Please abide by these preferences for the best results.

 Remember:

  • Advising Appointment =  this is something you schedule with your advisor prior to your assigned registration date/appointment.   During your advising appointment, you will discuss which classes you will take in the spring.  You will also get your advising block removed, making you eligible to register
  • Registration Date/Appointment = the date/time you are eligible to log into Testudo and register for classes on your own (you can’t register unless advising is satisfied first and your block is removed!)

2.  MAKING AN ADVISING APPOINTMENT

For those who HAVE declared their concentration:

  • Schedule your advising appointment AT LEAST (1) WEEK IN ADVANCE of your registration appointment.  If you are in one of the larger concentrations (like Politics & Policy, Land Use, or Wildlife), please schedule your advising at least TWO (2) weeks in advance.
  • Find advisor contact information/preferences by clicking on the page for your concentration. You should also read THIS PAGE which contains a link at the top for how advising will be handled this semester.

For those who HAVE NOT declared their concentration (less than 40 credits)

  • You'll make your appointment with me.  To do so, please click HERE.
  • Please schedule your advising at least TWO (2) weeks in advance.

3.  REGISTRATION BLOCKS

Verify on Testudo under “Appointments and Registration Status” to see if you have any registration blocks that could prevent you from registering and resolve them as soon as possible

The most common Registration Blocks are: Immunization Blocks, Financial Bocks, and Fundamental Studies blocks.  The Mandatory Advising block will be removed after you make your advising appointment. To view all types of blocks and what they mean, click HERE.

Course listed as "By Permission Only" (Perm Req):  contact the academic department offering the course.   For example, students who wish to take GEOG courses that are required for your ENSP concentration, must contact the GEOG department.  If you want to get permission for a GVPT course, contact the GVPT department, etc.

 Permission for “ENSP” courses:

  •  Contact me if you need permission for ENSP306, 330, 342 or 370.  You must be in Junior standing, and is highly recommend that you have completed both ENSP101 and 102.  Please send me your name and UID if you want permission to take this course.
  •  Contact me if you need permission for ENSP 400.  You must be in Senior standing (last or second-to-last semester).  Please send me your name and UID if you want permission to take this course.
  •  If you plan to earn credit for an internship via ENSP386, go HERE for information and procedures.
  • I CANNOT give you stamps for other departments (ENST, GVPT, etc).

4. WINTER TERM COURSES

You may register for WINTER TERM at UMD beginning on October 20 – you do not need to wait for your Spring registration appointment.  However , the billing schedule for Winter Term is extremely different from “regular” semesters, and you must be aware of deadlines and procedures to avoid dropped classes or unexpected financial penalties.

For more information winter term enrollment (deadlines, fees, etc), click HERE

If you wish to take a winter tem course at another institution, click HERE.

5.  DECLARING YOUR ENSP CONENTRATION & GRADUATION PLANS

All Undeclared ENSP students with 40 or more credits completed (including transfer credits) must prepare a Graduation Plan PRIOR to registration.   It's time to declare your concentration!!!

  • Directions and answers to FAQ’s about this process are found HERE.
  • Send your Graduation Plan to me as an attachment in a Word document.
  • If you have over 40 credits, you will not be allowed to register until I have a graduation plan from you.

FINALLY – a word about the delivery method for Spring 2021 classes

For now, only pay attention to the DAYS and TIMES of the courses when planning your schedules; IGNORE locations/delivery methods.

The university continues to monitor the circumstances related to the pandemic. As such, course delivery methods and locations for the Spring 2021 semester will be finalized and published in the Schedule of Classes on Testudo by December 4, 2020. Some of you will be registering before you have this updated information, so be prepared to possibly make some changes.

The mode of delivery for each course will be the same as they are this fall (face-to-face, blended, online-synchronous, online-asynchronous). Campus is currently aiming for about 25% face-to-face classes overall in spring 2021, public health conditions permitting. Large courses will all be online. Some smaller courses will be online and some smaller courses will be face-to-face or blended. I know this is hard because there are still so many uncertainties but we promise to keep you notified with any updated information.
