Entomology Undergrad Research Technician Position

Research details: Research in the laboratory of Dr. Paula Shrewsbury focuses on the ecology and
management of invasive insects in ornamental plant ecosystems. Ongoing projects examine the role of
native and exotic natural enemies in managing invasive insects such as brown marmorated stink bug.
Assistance is needed on research projects involving field, lab and greenhouse studies. This is an
excellent opportunity to gain research experience, learn about ecology and the role insects play in urban
and natural environments.
Required skills: Must enjoy working outside under varying environmental conditions and be able to
perform physical work. Must be organized, reliable, responsible and able to work both independently
and as part of a team. Strong interest, course work and/or experience in entomology, horticulture, pest
management, community ecology and/or biology. Lab or field experience are desirable. Must be a UMD
student and have a valid MD driver’s license. Note: All COVID safety practices are strictly enforced.
Starting Date: Preferably mid to late - March 2021
Hours: During the semester (~15-20 hours/week), with the possibility to continue for summer (~30-40
hours/week).
Hourly wage: Based on experience
