This summer, Engage Globally is looking forward to working with a group of interns to support our community-led sustainable development programs in rural Ghana and our virtual environmental education and inclusion programming. All of our internships are virtual and unpaid, as we are a volunteer organization. However, we are happy to support internships for academic credit and campus fellowships.

Our internships are designed to help students build or demonstrate professional skills including:
- Communication – social media, marketing, graphic design, photo editing, video-making
- Environmental education skills
- Crowdfunding / virtual fundraising
- Understanding of justice, diversity, equity and inclusion in sustainable development
- Global and current event engagement
We seek interns who:
- Are interested in global sustainable development, environmental education, inclusion and/or small nonprofit work
- Would like to work 15-20 hours per week virtually between May 31 and August 6, 2021
- Are very well organized and who can work independently with minimal direction
- Enjoy working in collaborative teams with other interns
What do interns with Engage Globally do?
Each intern will work on the following:
- A project that you select during the interview process (see internship descriptions below) – approximately 8 hours per week
- Crowdfunding and social media support – approximately 2 hours per week
- Team projects – approximately 3 hours per week
- General program assistance – approximately 2 hours per week
- Personal professional development – resumes, trainings, reflections, meetings – the first week and then approximately 2 hours per week

Internship descriptions:
- Environmental education interns
- Research environmental education materials online
- Develop environmental education activities and curriculum for multiple audiences
- Create social media environmental education messaging
- Early-childhood educators are needed to support our early childhood education curriculum, assessment, and teacher learning exchange
- Spanish language speakers are needed to translate some materials
- Environmental education – artists
- Illustrate environmental education materials
- Produce music for videos
- Research environmental art – music, artists, documentary films
- Create social media messaging to share these resources
- Inclusion interns
- Researching and producing materials that will be made publicly available on environmental inclusion
- Designing social media messages and educational materials
- Develop curriculum for youth and adults on environmental justice and inclusion
- Graphic design
- Support social media team
- Design flyers about our Ghana programs
- Design templates for resource sharing – ex. inclusion resources
- Social media communication
- Produce a variety of social media materials on topics including
- Key sustainable development global dates – ex. World Women’s Day
- Individual actions to support conservation – ‘Make a difference Mondays’
- Highlights of our Ghana programs
- Themed projects like ‘eco-walk’ and pollinator gardens
- Produce a variety of social media materials on topics including
- Support Instagram growth efforts including influencer research
- Development / Fundraising interns
- Seeking small business partners for diverse Ghana projects
- Social media materials for themed campaigns – ex. Giving Tuesday
- Seeking community organization partners for specific Ghana projects
- Grant research and drafting
- Event planning
- Intern would plan an online auction
- Help plan and design marketing materials for virtual educational sessions
- Ghana project interns – support our Ghana projects by:
- Researching potential partners in Ghana – ex. organizations that install water resources or use solar lanterns or provide laptops
- Research statistics on Ghana and the region to enhance grant applications and our monitoring and evaluation efforts
- Writing project proposals – cookstoves, solar lanterns, computer lab, women’s agricultural expansion, vocational training projects
- Editing / enhancing materials from our Ghana partners for publication
- #30by#30 intern – support our research and messaging around supporting the #30by#30 global conservation initiative, including:
- identifying online resources
- social media messaging creation
- education material development
- wildlife and habitat research
- Soccer intern
- Reach out to college soccer teams and clubs to raise support for our youth teams
- Develop social media to share our soccer program with others
- Write a project proposal to expand this program
- Research other youth soccer programs in Ghana
- Pollinator gardening, rewilding intern – this person would manage this project by:
- Researching and development of shareable resources
- Blog writing
- Social media development
- Outreach to community organizations, universities, and small businesses
- Team coordinators
- Some interns will be asked to help lead other intern teams – if you have volunteer management experience or expertise in something listed above, such as social media communication, please let us know if you would be interested in this role.
